ANZLIC activity since 2023

Since the 2023 meetings, ANZLIC has continued to strengthen its national leadership role in geospatial information, with a sustained focus on strategic direction, collaboration across jurisdictions, and engagement with the broader geospatial sector.

Discussions and activities over this period have highlighted the growing importance of geospatial data in addressing national priorities, including infrastructure delivery, housing, emergency management, resilience and economic productivity. Jurisdictions have shared progress on major spatial system modernisation initiatives, including digital cadastre, digital twin and spatial data reforms, alongside ongoing work to uplift geospatial capability across governments.

ANZLIC has maintained a strong emphasis on national coordination and standards, with continued engagement through the Intergovernmental Committee on Surveying and Mapping (ICSM) and active participation in international geospatial forums, including the United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management (UNGGIM) community. These efforts have supported alignment on geodesy, naming, standards and best practice, and reinforced Australia’s contribution to regional and global geospatial initiatives.

Over this period, ANZLIC has also progressed its future strategic direction, considering how best to enhance its visibility, communications and engagement with government, industry and the spatial community. This has included reflecting on changes within the sector, evolving government priorities, and opportunities to strengthen wholeofgovernment geospatial coordination.

Together, these activities reflect ANZLIC’s ongoing role in providing national leadership on geospatial matters, supporting collaboration across jurisdictions, and ensuring spatial data and capability continue to deliver value for Australia.
