ANZLIC has published its first Strategic Plan 2020-24 Progress Report, showing progress against each of the 10 key initiatives in the ANZLIC Strategic Plan.
Launched in Australia and New Zealand on 28 April 2021, the Locus Charter seeks to ensure the ethical and responsible use of location data throughout the world. The Benchmark Initiative and EthicalGeo facilitated production of the Locus Charter.
ANZLIC is delighted to announce that Land Use Victoria’s Chief Executive, Melissa Harris, has made history, becoming the first female to be appointed its Chair. This is also the first time in ANZLIC’s 35-year history that two females hold its highest office, with Sandy Carruthers (Executive Director, Strategy, Science & Corporate Services, Department for the Environment and Water) also becoming ANZLIC’s Deputy Chair.
ANZLIC has published its updated roadmap to continue to implement its Strategic Plan 2020-24. The updated roadmap includes activities for implementing on the following priority initiatives: modernising the Foundation Spatial Data Framework, Digital Twins and Space and Spatial. It also includes implementing on priority enablers including skills and capabilities, effective collaboration and engagement, and supporting improved diversity and inclusion.
Highlights from the 10 May 2023 ANZLIC meeting include: appointment of the ANZLIC Chair and co-Deputy Chairs for the next two year term to mid-2025; a demonstration of the Digital Atlas of Australia; endorsement of ICSM’s Imagery Statement of Direction; presentations from Before you Dig Australia, Australasian Business Advisory Board and Digital Twin Victoria; and the release of the Annual Progress Report on the Updated Roadmap to continue to implement ANZLIC’s Strategic Plan.
Highlights from the 28 August 2023 ANZLIC meeting include: a presentation from Tony Wheeler, CEO of the Geospatial Council of Australia, about a new project to undertake an economic impact assessment of geospatial data in Australia; a discussion with Michelle Blicavs from the Association of Consulting Surveyors about the findings and recommendations in the research report into Demand, Supply and Skills Gap for Surveying and Geospatial Professionals 2023-2033; and updates on key initiatives from across government.
Highlights from the 15 November 2023 ANZLIC meeting include: a discussion with Dr James Johnson, CEO Geoscience Australia, about Geospatial Leadership; an update on the Space and Spatial Industry Growth Roadmap 2030; an update on the Australian Government's Data and Digital Government Strategy; and a briefing from Lisa Bush and Dr. Zaffar Sadiq Mohamed-Ghouse following their attendance at the 12th Plenary Meeting of United Nations Global Geospatial Information Management for Asia and The Pacific (UNGGIM-AP).
On 15 November 2023, ANZLIC members participated in a live webinar for GIS Day. The webinar bought together geospatial leaders from across all levels of government and offered great insights exciting prospects, challenges, and collaborative opportunities that lie ahead in the world of GIS in Australia.
